Internship Opportunities
Spring 2010 Applications Accepted Oct 1-Nov 13, 2009 We’re currently seeking assistance from talented UCF students to enhance our programming. In return, we’ll provide a real world, educational experience. We’re looking for organized, professional, dedicated and outgoing students who are looking for a challenging and exciting internship in the TV industry. With over 700 originally produced shows finished to date that make up 15 hours of UCF related programming per day students have the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience and have their work shown on a channel that reaches 1.4 million households. The interns’ work may be used in actual shows and on the web. UCF TV has the following internship opportunities available: Field and Studio Production Internship Field and Studio Production Interns will join our production team and play a major role in our coverage of UCF events, topics and issues. These interns will need to be comfortable behind the camera both in the studio and in the field. Interns may be asked to act as one-person production units or to work collaboratively with others on large-scale productions. Duties for this position will include shooting on campus events, studio camera operation, audio board operation, studio lighting, running teleprompter, tape logging, program descriptions, editing, researching, organizing archive footage and assisting UCF TV staff in daily station operations. Production interns should be experienced with ENG style cameras and have some editing experience. Students interested in this internship must have completed RTV 3260 (Single Camera and Editing), and at least one of the following; RTV 3228 (Studio TV Production Preferred), RTV 3263 (Advanced Post Preferred), RTV 3223 (Lighting), or RTV 4206 (Directing). Anyone not able to meet these requirements must show significant production knowledge and/or substitutable course work. Post Production/ Final Cut Pro Editing Internship Post Production Interns will primarily edit and complete the post-production of TV shows and web videos created for UCF TV. This requires a working knowledge of Final Cut Pro editing software as well as ability to work with both SD and HD video in a non-linear editing environment. Knowledge of Photoshop, Motion and After Effects are a plus. Interns will be given credit for editing or post-production in the shows credits and are encouraged to use their work for demo reel purposes. Students interested in this internship must have completed RTV 3260 (Single Camera and Editing) and 3263 (Advanced Post Production) or DIG 3286 (Assembly of Digital Media in FCP Preferred) or DIG 2030 (Digital Video Fundamentals). Anyone not able to meet these requirements must show significant Final Cut Pro knowledge or substitutable course work. Promo Development Internship Promo Development Interns will work along side our programming department in order to develop TV promos and web videos. Interns will be responsible for updating event announcements, tagging PBS promos and creating original station promos. Students will need to have the ability to create promotional spots from start to finish. This will include gathering existing show footage, writing scripts, creating graphics or coordinating graphic creation with UCF TV staff, shooting additional footage, editing spot and presenting it in a professional manor to station personnel. These interns need to be hard working, deadline oriented, motivated and creative in order to entice viewers with their 30-second spots. Students interested in this internship must have completed the following courses RTV 3260 (Single Camera) and RTV 2102 (Writing for Electronic Media) or ADV 4103 (Radio TV Advertising) and ADV 3008 (Principles of Advertising). This position also requires a working knowledge of Final Cut Pro. Anyone not able to meet these requirements must show previous promo or advertising spot creation experience or substitutable course work. Broadcast Journalist Internship Broadcast Journalist Interns will join our talent and producing team and will play a major role in our coverage of student, alumni and community events. Interns will be expected to research events, write scripts and act as on-camera talent or voice talent for the segments. They will also have the opportunity to work closely with professional reports on longer format projects and TV series. Interns may also be asked to log footage, write program descriptions, conduct research, run teleprompter, create announcements and any other station related duties. Applicants should be highly organized and able to act as a one-person-band when needed. Final Cut pro experience is a major plus, along with an interest in magazine style TV Shows. Students interested in this internship must have completed RTV 2102 (Writing for Electronic Media), RTV 3260 (Single Camera Production) and RTV 3301 (Electronic Journalism) with a preference towards interns that have completed RTV 3304 (Electronic Journalism 2). Programming, Traffic and Distribution Internship Programming, Traffic and Distribution Interns will assist in the daily operations of running and organizing a TV channel. Interns will participate in the planning of program schedules, placement of promos and interstitials in breaks and generate program logs. Students will also research new programming, review program offers and compile a list of possible UCF TV shows in order to be presented to station management. Interns will also learn and use ProTrack software in order to schedule programming and create TV playlists. Other responsibilities may include program descriptions, creation of web copy, social networking postings and any other station related duties needed by UCF TV staff. Students interested in this internship must have completed RTV 2102 (Writing for Electronic Media) and RTV 4800 (Broadcast Management) or ADV 4103 (Radio Television Advertisement) and possess a passion for learning about TV programming, traffic and distribution. General Information Student interns must be receiving college credit and must be available a minimum of 12 hours per week. Some internships may require occasional work on weekends. This internship is unpaid. All interns may be asked to assist with studio or field productions, event promotions and other duties as assigned.
